Holguín Province, often called the “City of Parks” and the “Cradle of Cuban Tourism,” offers a quieter, more authentic alternative to Cuba’s better-known hotspots. Farther afield, areas like Pinares de Mayarí and La Mensura National Park offer waterfalls, natural pools, and cooler mountain air, with opportunities for guided treks and horseback riding. Holguín also has strong cultural and historical roots. This is one of the places where Christopher Columbus is believed to have first landed in the Americas, and the local museums and monuments reflect both Indigenous and colonial heritage. Throughout the year, traditional music and dance festivals fill the streets, while small art galleries and craft markets showcase local talent.
